In 2004, Roger Hind then 19 was inspired to invent a rain proof washing line after forgetting to bring in the laundry during a downpour. We've all been there hanging out the washing on what seems like a nice day only to return home and find a passing shower has soaked all the washing.
Roger decided to take action and came up with the idea for a special cover, called the Rotamate based on a traditional rotary airer washing line with a fabric lining, which would protect drying washing from unpredictable British weather, he continued to work as a drum teacher during the early stages of the business.
A former pupil of Kingsmead school, Roger recently met up with his former teacher Mr Lupson and gave a compelling lecture to students from Year 10 & 11 and drew a number of excellent questions from the audience, who were fascinated by the highs and lows of Roger's experience over the past seven years.
At the start of 2007, Roger enters the Dragons' Den and is backed by Richard Farleigh and Deborah Meaden. A number of media interviews follow, both regional and national TV & Radio with press releases nationwide and runner up in the Enterprising Young Brits awards.
Rotamate is now a brand name trading under Cleveright Ltd, one of a number of new products under development!
